A sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is now in the works, and it’s happening at the same time fashion icon Anna Wintour is stepping down from her role at Vogue magazine.
20th Century Studios announced on Monday that filming for The Devil Wears Prada 2 has officially started. The news comes as Wintour, who is believed to have inspired the powerful editor character in the first film, is leaving Vogue after nearly 40 years.
The first movie, released in 2006, was based on a best-selling book by Lauren Weisberger. It tells the story of a young woman in New York (played by Anne Hathaway) who lands a job at a top fashion magazine under a very strict boss, played by Meryl Streep.
Streep’s character, Miranda Priestly, became known as a symbol of tough bosses, and the role earned her an Oscar nomination.
The new movie will bring back Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt. British actor Kenneth Branagh has also joined the cast.
The film is being directed by David Frankel, who also directed the first one. A release date has not yet been announced.
